WORLD PATIENT SAFETY DAY
Safety in the ward: ‘HANDHY’ arrives at the hospital
The platform was developed by a Modena-based startup to study good hand hygiene practices. Sassuolo is the first hospital in Italy to test this project.
SASSUOLO – On the occasion of World Patient Safety Day, the Sassuolo Hospital launches an innovative and unique pilot project for the installation of the platform developed by the Modena startup HANDHY, with the goal of strengthening good hand hygiene practices and raising safety standards in hospital wards.
Sassuolo Hospital S.p.A. is the first in Italy to start testing this innovative system, which will initially involve the Emergency Medicine Department. HANDHY is an innovative support tool in the fight against healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), introducing discreet assistance for healthcare workers: targeted reminders at key moments of the care process that help consolidate correct behaviors, integrating into routines without overburdening them and helping to reduce stress, cognitive load, and operational complexity.
These infections still represent a significant challenge for the entire healthcare system: in Italy, they affect over 500,000 patients every year.
Designed according to the principles of “privacy by design”, the experimental platform of the Italian startup pays great attention to the protection of people and clinical environments, adopting essential and proportionate processing methods aligned with the goal of prevention and process improvement.
The launch of the project strengthens Sassuolo Hospital’s commitment to responsible innovation: simple, useful tools integrated into clinical practice.“This collaboration,” emphasizes Stefano Reggiani, General Director of Sassuolo Hospital, “reflects our vision: useful technologies, respectful of care environments, and oriented toward the patient’s well-being.” “We started from a simple idea,” explains Mohamed Ouassif, CEO and founder of HANDHY, “to make it easier to ‘do the right thing at the right time’. We are grateful to Sassuolo Hospital for its trust and for the shared value of a safer healthcare system.”
HANDHY is a MedTech startup founded in 2021 in Modena by Mohamed Ouassif. The company was born from the need to address healthcare safety challenges through innovative technological solutions that support healthcare professionals and healthcare facilities in preventing adverse events. Among the company’s areas of work are the prevention of healthcare-associated infections, patient safety through fall detection solutions, anti-wandering monitoring, real-time location, and the development of integrated solutions combining proprietary hardware, artificial intelligence, and data analysis.
